Our Volunteers of the Year for 2014

April 29, 2014

We would like to congratulate Katie McKay on being named Community Living St. Catharines' Volunteer of the Year for 2014 and Emma Caldwell on being named Community Living St. Catharines' Youth Volunteer of the Year for 2014!

Katie Mckay started volunteering for our Best Buddies Brock Chapter Volunteer Program in 2012.  She has been a "Best Buddy" to a person we support for almost 2 years now, providing one-to-one support and friendship through weekly contact and get-togethers.  Early on in volunteering for Best Buddies, Katie took on various leadership roles and became our Chapter President in September 2013.  As our Chapter President, Katie assists in planning and facilitating our monthly Chapter group activities and fundraisers, including our first ever Art and Silent Auction Fundraiser held this past February.  In addition, Katie has volunteer for our Preschool Program, Adult Day Program, and various special events held throughout the year.  We are very thankful to Katie for all she does and time she devotes to our Agency!

Emma Caldwell has been a volunteer for our Agency since Grade 9 in 2011 as a Special Events volunteer.  We can always count on Emma to volunteer at our dances, Agency events, and yearly Blue Jays games, just to name a few!  Even though Emma is still in high school, the maturity and understanding she exhibits when volunteering with the people we support who have intellectual disabilities far exceeds her teenage years.  Our participants look forward to when Emma volunteers and we know that Emma is someone we can trust to provide meaningful experiences for the people we support!

 Congratulations Katie and Emma!
